Burnley defeat Chelsea 3-2 at Stamford Bridge

Premier League round-up: Nine-man Chelsea stunned by Burnley, Rooney the hero for Everton

Chelsea captain Gary Cahill was sent off early on and they were three goals down by half time.

The Clarets made their numerical advantage count 10 minutes later as Vokes fired in his first of the afternoon from a Matt Lowton delivery.

Chelsea brought in Alvaro Morata in the second half and it paid off as the Spaniad got his first goal for the club to make it 3-1 in the 69th minute of the game.

Chelsea's hopes looked to have gone when a late challenge from Cesc Fabregas on Jack Cork added a second yellow to his first, received for dissent, to leave the Blues with nine men.

Conte feared Chelsea were less than ready for this title defence, admitting on Friday he agreed with those who did not list his team among the favourites to win the Premier League.

And Conte says he isn't anxious about his squad depth.

On Saturday they were missing Eden Hazard and Pedro through injury as well as suspended Victor Moses. Boga, an exciting talent, had little time to make any sort of impact before becoming the unfortunate collateral damage of Cahill's early red, sacrificed for Andreas Christensen in the 18th minute.

Soon after, Vokes had a goal called offside.

The Terriers were the better side and got the goals to prove it, with record signing Steve Mounie striking twice after Joel Ward's own goal had given David Wagner's side the lead.

Burnley went for the fourth goal but the post kept out a 90th minute freekick as the defending champions sought an equaliser. Boss Antonio Conte, very much the hero in his maiden campaign outside of Italian football, has made clear that he is not entirely happy with his side's transfer dealings to date.

Kick-off is just under a half hour from now.

Hello and welcome to today's match between Chelsea and Burnley at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are the league's best team when it comes to opening the season. That it took until a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace on April 29 to pick up their first away victory says an bad lot.
