Acura unveils updated 2018 RLX with more aggressive styling

2018 Acura RLX Sport Hybrid Front Three Quarter In Motion

On Thursday, Acura unveiled the fresh new look that will adorn the brand's updated 2018 RLX sedan.

"This redesign of the 2018 Acura RLX is transformational, creating road presence and styling that better reflect underlying performance capabilities of the vehicle", Acura vice president and general manager, Jon Ikeda, said in a statement.

Acura's new design for the 2018 RLX features the signature diamond pentagon grille, a more sculpted hood, new wheel designs, bold LED taillights, dual exhaust finishers and a gloss black rear diffuser.

The 2018 Acura RLX will make its public debut during the prestigious Monterey Automotive Week, August 15-19 on the Monterey peninsula. It's not much different from the current RLX with two screens in the center stack, tasteful wood interior accents, and lots of curves. Instead of the front axle, however, two of those motors are on the rear axle and they give the vehicle all-wheel drive. If you love cars with all-wheel drive, the Sport Hybrid will be your choice, but it still generates the same 377 horsepower as the previous year model. Total output is 377 horsepower, and Acura says learnings from the NSX help improve the RLX's handling.

When it goes on sale in November, the 2018 RLX should carry a starting price similar to the $55,400 and $60,900 it commands today for the standard V-6 and Sport Hybrid versions.

The RLX is available in two variants and a 3.5-liter V-6 engine powers both. It will have with a 10-speed automatic transmission that Acura promises will provide refined driving experience with smooth shifts and better acceleration.

AcuraWatch is available and includes a Collision Mitigation Braking System, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, and Road Departure Mitigation.

Standard features on the 2018 RLX Sport Hybrid include a premium Krell Audio System, surround view camera, parking sensors, LED fog lights, remote engine start, ventilated and heated front seats, heated rear seats and steering wheel, as well as the AcuraWatch suite of safety and driver assistance systems. The 2018 model gets three new paint colors to go along with the new bodywork. In addition, there is Traffic Jam Assist which will help you out when you are driving in slow-speed situations. The newest feature is Traffic Jam Assist that works in conjunction with the adaptive cruise control's low-speed follow function to keep the auto in its lane and at a safe distance from the vehicle in front.
