You'll Soon be Able to Play RuneScape Seamlessly Between PC and Mobile

"The RuneScape titles will become the first mainstream and established Western MMORPGs on mobile in full and the first to deliver cross-platform play between PC and mobile platforms". Both versions of the game - RuneScape and Old School RuneScape - will get the mobile treatment, with both clients being cross-platform.

The same applies for the updated version, though we're not sure exactly when that will make an appearance.

According to Jagex, the mobile version of RuneScape will be the same game "you know and love", optimized for phones and tablets. You create a character, then head off on an epic adventure full of monster battling, gear crafting, and PvP.

"We want to take RuneScape to where people are playing, whether that's in its current MMORPG form or a spin-off franchise - that's something you'll see in the future, going onto new devices for new territories is one of the key things we're pushing towards at the moment".

It's important to note that this announcement applies to both RuneScape proper and Old School RuneScape. Players can use their existing accounts and play in the same servers that they use in the PC versions of the games.

Extending RuneScape and Old School RuneScape's PC gameplay to mobile, interoperable play represents a massive advancement for RuneScape's legions of players. Interested players can sign up to beta test the modern and classic versions of the game. Some people who were PC players are not now, but we can offer that same experience on a mobile device that people can dive in and out of. The Old School and modern clients could re-engage the existing audience that may use mobile devices more than PCs.

Now free-to-play is much more common amongst even premium MMOs, but Runescape doesn't appear to be done innovating just yet.
