UAE Wants International Monitoring of Qatar

Vodafone Qatar says access to network hit by technical issues

Officials became aware last week that newly analyzed information gathered by USA intelligence agencies confirmed that on May 23, senior members of the UAE government discussed the plan and its implementation. The story said the Emirates orchestrated the hacks, though it said it wasn't clear whether the UAE carried out the cyber attack on its own, or contracted another party to do it.

News agencies and channels with close ties to the UAE, Saudi and Egyptian governments reported the emir's quoted comments with startling speed soon after the alleged hack took place.

The report did not identify the intelligence officials it spoke to for the report. The boycott has caused turmoil in the oil- and gas-rich emirate, which is dependent on imports by land and sea for the basic needs of its population of 2.7 million.

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Qatari emir, had been falsely quoted in May as praising Hamas, the Palestinian group which governs the Gaza Strip, and saying that Iran was an "Islamic power".

UAE Ambassador Yousef al-Otaiba denied the report in a statement, saying it was "false", the Post said.

Proof points and key messages on Qatar's funding and support of terrorism and extremism will be brought to the limelight at a seminar to be organised in Brussels on Tuesday, July 18th, by the Trends Research and Advisory. "Inciting violence, encouraging radicalization, and undermining the stability of its neighbors", the statement further read.

The UAE, along with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt, announced a diplomatic and transport blockade of Qatar at the beginning of June. The details of the evidence in possession of United States intelligence is not known.

The UAE's minister of state for foreign affairs Anwar Gargash said earlier on Monday that the Washington Post report was false and denied his country's involvement in any hack.

"As already said, Fifa is in regular contact with the Qatar 2022 Local Organising Committee and the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy handling matters relating to the 2022 Fifa World Cup", he added.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation was previously known to be working with Qatar to probe the hacking.
