UAE behind hacking of Qatari media

Arab states vow to maintain boycotts on Qatar

Doha denies the accusations.

The diplomatic slack now appears likely to be picked up again by the Europeans, with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian heading to the region at the weekend.

He is the latest Western official to visit the area since the crisis began.

With Qatar confronting a Saudi-led quartet of countries in a bitter dispute over terrorism issues and regional politics, Tillerson's mission - his first mediation overseas since taking office - had been hard from the start and was further complicated by several factors.

The countries say a pact the Gulf nation signed with the United States last week to disable the flow of money to terrorist groups isn't enough to end the rift, and insisted their demands that Qatar change its policies be met in full.

The foreign ministers of the boycotting countries plan to meet in Manama to decide on their next steps.

"France calls for the lifting, as soon as possible, of the measures that affect the populations in particular, bi-national families that have been separated or students", the minister said.

"We are headed for a long estrangement... we are very far from a political solution involving a change in Qatar's course and, in light of that, nothing will change and we have to look for a different format of relations", UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash said.

"I know nothing about the report that quoted Federation Internationale de Football Association president Gianni Infantino as saying that Egypt is among six countries that have asked for Qatar to be banned from hosting the 2022 World Cup", EFA board member Mohamed Abou El-Wafa told an Egyptian TV programme on Sunday.

Airlines such as EgyptAir, Etihad Airways and Emirates have cancelled flights to and from the Qatari capital Doha.

Qatar's emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, was quoted in May as praising Gaza's ruling Hamas movement and calling Iran an "Islamic power". They accuse the gas-rich state of supporting terrorism and meddling in the region's internal affairs - charges it has denied. The opponents of Qatar believe this agreement will not ease concerns regarding Doha's activities and that Doha must fulfil all their demands.

But Ghandour dismissed these reports, saying Sudan is adhering to its reconciliatory stance on the Gulf crisis and calls for a solution through the Kuwaiti mediation.

The UAE also took part in "extensive lobbying against JASTA alongside Saudi Arabia", a legal source told Middle East Eye.

Jubeir said any resolution of the worst Gulf crisis in years should come from within the six-nation Gulf Co-operation Council.

New details concerning recent crisis in the Persian Gulf are being revealed while the regional conflict escalates further despite worldwide efforts.

The UAE is mentioned over 70 times in the 9/11 Commission report and related documents, including one on terrorist financing. "In this perspective, it is important that GCC countries should be united, to remain a rampart against instability", he said.

Le Drian is on a two day visit to the Arabian Gulf.

"France does not want to substitute the mediator", Le Drian said in Saudi Arabia.

Despite mediation efforts by the United States and Kuwait, the Gulf countries appear to have reached an impasse.
