Tiemoue Bakayoko leaves Monaco to join English champions Chelsea

Matic to make way for Bakayoko?

The worldwide midfielder has signed for five seasons with the Blues.

The 35-year-old goalkeeper was brought in by Chelsea on a free transfer to replace Asmir Begovic, who joined Bournemouth earlier this summer.

Bakayoko has joined the Premier League champions on a five-year-deal from Monaco for a fee understood to be £40m.

Tiemoue Bakayoko says former Chelsea players Didier Drogba and Claude Makelele have been two major influences in his career.

Everybody has known for a long while now that Tiemoue Bakayoko was going to be a Chelsea player, but it is only today that the move has been confirmed. He enjoyed a meteoric rise to prominence at Monaco last season after two years of being viewed as an unfulfilled talent, and he only earned his first worldwide cap for France in March.

The France worldwide also spoke of his early impressions of Chelsea, his initial dealings with boss Antonio Conte and the prospect of linking up with Les Bleus teammate N'Golo Kante on a regular basis.

"Not to be disrespectful, but when you speak about Roma and Chelsea, Chelsea is a big club". The deal looked to be good value the day it was announced and proved to be a bargain.

The France worldwide officially joined the Blues in a deal worth £40m on Saturday, making him the West London club's second-highest signing behind Fernando Torres.

"I am now looking forward to evolving under this fantastic coach and alongside so many great team mates".

Antonio Conte's side will seek to defend its Premier League title, but the Brazil defender sees no reason why it should not also land further domestic honours and the Champions League.

They have made an initial bid of £28million to sign the Brazilian.
