Sessions Pressed on Settlement with Company Linked to Trump Jr. Russian Lawyer

President Donald Trump told reporters he changed the subject with Russian President Vladimir Putin during their meeting during the G20 after pressing him repeatedly about the country's role in meddling in the 2016 US election

Lawyers for President Donald Trump have raised the possibility that the request for the meeting could have been part of a smear campaign against him, trying to tie him and his campaign to Russian Federation.

The lawyer for Donald Trump Jr has not responded. In messages from Goldstone to Trump Jr., Veselnitskaya was characterized as a "Russian government attorney", though she has denied connections to the Kremlin.

President Donald Trump is defending his son in regards to the Russian Federation investigation, writing on Twitter that his son was "open, transparent and innocent".

"If it's what you say I love it", Trump Jr. said in response to the offer about Clinton, according to the email exchange.

Justice Department Special Counsel Robert Mueller is investigating Russian interference with the United States election, as are at least four congressional committees.

In a series of emails, Trump Jr. was told the lawyer had "high-level and sensitive" information that was "part of Russian Federation and its government's support for Mr. Trump".

"I said to him, 'Were you involved in the meddling with the election?'" Mr. Trump recalled.

Pressed on whether the committee would subpoena Trump Jr., Grassley said, "Let's wait and see what he does from our letter". Emin Agalarov is a Russian pop singer whose billionaire father, Aras, is a friend of President Trump. "It was a short meeting. I don't think this is the right time, but the answer is yes, I would".

The congressman's account provides the latest evidence that the overture to President Trump's eldest son in June 2016 by a Russian lawyer named Natalia Veselnitskaya was part of a larger campaign by Moscow that predated the Trump Tower encounter and continued afterwards.

Trump arrived in Paris earlier Thursday, escaping at least temporarily the darkening crisis at the White House. The entire interview will air Thursday morning on Brazos Valley This Morning.

"The team contends that it isn't out to get Kushner, but just wants to protect the president because his son-in-law is so wrapped up in the investigation", the outlet reported.

The remarks in Paris during a joint news conference with French President Emmanuel Macron came even though Trump's own Federal Bureau of Investigation pick has said the authorities should be alerted to requests for such meetings during a campaign and even after Donald Trump Jr said he would rethink his own conduct in agreeing to the gathering in the first place.
