Palestinians have right to 'healthy' resistance against Israel: Activist

Three Arab-Israeli gunmen killed two Israeli policemen near Jerusalem's holiest site, the Temple Mount, or Noble Sanctuary on Friday.

"Israel and the Jerusalem police, in particular, are complicit in violating the ban on non-Muslim worship on the holy esplanade", he added. Friday Muslim prayers at the al-Aqsa Mosque on the site were canceled.

Arab Israelis are descendants of Palestinians who remained on their land following the creation of Israel in 1948.

Israel has claimed that violence is caused largely by Palestinian "incitement".

Following the shooting, Israeli forces blockaded the mosque compound, not allowing worshippers into the area.

"These measures are unprecedented and have never been taken since the [Israeli] occupation of Jerusalem in 1967", he said. A few of the attacks were carried out by Arab Israeli citizens.

The site is administered by the Islamic Waqf organisation.

The Jerusalem Post reported that two Israeli police officers died, one the son of a former Israeli Druse Knesset member, and the other a new father.
