Liverpool enter enter race to sign Chelsea target Aubameyang

Antonio Conte is "desperate" to sign a centre-forward for Chelsea this summer but the Blues are not close to landing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to reports in the British media.

Aubameyang's importance to Dortmund was highlighted by the fact he was not only their top scorer last season but also netted more goals than any other player in the Bundesliga - pipping Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski to the Golden Boot award in the process.

That is the date that Peter Bosz's team will begin pre-season at a training camp in Switzerland and if Aubameyang is still a Dortmund player by that time the club will insist that he remains one, rather than allow him to leave after and limit their own window in which to sign a replacement.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has been heavily linked with a swoop for the 28-year-old Gabon global striker, who has scored 85 goals in 128 Bundesliga appearances for Dortmund, including 31 goals in 32 outings last term.

Though the Serie A side have yet to hold talks, a potential switch to Manchester United has stalled due to the Old Trafford side hijacking the Blues' move for Everton's Romelu Lukaku, with Chelsea willing to accept a lesser bid from a club outside of the Premier League for Matic as a result.

Should Chelsea end up getting a deal for Dortmund star Aubameyang over the line, it'll be interesting to see whether the Gabon worldwide can replicate the form we see him achieve for the Bundesliga side last season, which saw the striker bag in impressive 31 goals in 32 league appearances.
