Lady Gaga Subpoenaed in Dr. Luke Defamation Case Against Kesha

CelebritiesLady Gaga Has Been Subpoenaed in Dr. Luke’s Defamation Lawsuit Against Kesha Written by Matt Keeley

Dr. Luke is continuing his defamation lawsuit against Kesha.

Gaga reportedly volunteered to provide a written statement, but Dr. Luke's lawyers have requested that she sit in for a proper deposition.

But when Dr. Luke subpoenaed the messages from Germanotta earlier this year she replied with a "heavily-redacted, four page spreadsheet of the text messages", says Jeffrey Movit, a lawyer for the producer, in a new Manhattan Supreme Court filing.

Gaga and Kesha have not commented.

Kesha has been dealt a number of blows to her case against the producer and music exec: past year, a judge dismissed her abuse claims; and in March, The Hollywood Reporter reported the same judge refused her attempt to amend counterclaims.

"In connection with Dr. Luke's defamation claims against Kesha, various third parties are being deposed by both sides, including celebrities", the lawyer told in a statement. The pop star became involved in the never-ending legal battle between the producer and Kesha when it was revealed that Kesha allegedly confided in Gaga about the history of emotional abuse and sexual assault at the hands of Dr. Luke in a series of text messages.

Though Movits has offered to go to Gaga in order to get the deposition, she and her team have not responded with a date, and Movits is now planning to approach a judge on August 8 to force Gaga to deliver her deposition.

In late December, court documents revealed that the judge received and sealed a text message Kesha had sent Gaga in 2016.

"Dr. Luke's team is attempting to manipulate the truth and draw press attention to their case by exaggerating Lady Gaga's role and falsely accusing her of dodging reasonable requests", Sean Cassidy said.

That's not good enough for Dr. Luke, who wants an uncensored copy of the text messages including reactions from Gaga and conversation that wasn't even focused on the Dr. Luke situation.

In 2016, she said the following about Kesha in an interview, "I feel like she's being very publicly shamed for something that happens in the music industry all the time, to women and men..."
