India Tour of Sri Lanka 2017: Shikhar Dhawan Replaces Injured Murali Vijay

Shikhar Dhawan replaces injured Murali Vijay for Tests in Sri Lanka

Murali Vijay has not played for the Indian national team since sustaining a wrist injury after the Australia test series during the home season previous year, which India won by 2-1.

Vijay's wrist injury, which kept him out of Indian Premier League (IPL ) Season 10, seems to be haunting the batsman yet again.

Shikhar Dhawan has replaced injured opener Murali Vijay in India's squad for the three-test series in Sri Lanka starting later this month.

Dhawan, who hasn't featured in the longest version of the game since the home Test series against New Zealand last September, has been in good nick in the shorter format of the game, particularly in the ICC Champions Trophy in England, where he emerged the highest scorer with 338 runs.

On the other hand, Murali Vijay has not played any competitive cricket since the end of the Australia Tests.

Vijay suffered a wrist injury during Australia's tour of India and "has complained of pain in his right wrist while playing a preparatory match", read the BCCI's press release.

BCCI's medical team has therefore advised that Vijay should continue his rehabilitation program. In an effort to test his fitness, Vijay played the TNCA first division match for his employers Jolly Rovers last week and he was included in the team only after the player had told the team in-charge that he was more than 80 per cent fit. He was alo not considered for five-match Test series against England but made a comeback in the limited-overs series. He was out of action for nearly three-and-a-half months and had missed the entire IPL season with the Dharamsala Test against Australia in March being his last competitive match.
