Trunks is the son of another of the most popular characters of the Dragon Ball manga and anime series, the Sayan prince Vegeta, and of Bulma, that has been part of the cast of the franchise basically since the very beginning.

Dragon Ball FighterZ will release in early 2018 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Time-traveling hero Trunks is the latest playable character announced for publisher Bandai Namco's upcoming fighting game, Dragon Ball FighterZ. Hopefully for Nintendo Switch owners, third party games like Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 sell well so the console can receive ports of other major third party releases. Registrations for the beta will open later this month on July 26.

Announced during E3, Dragon Ball FighterZ is being developed by Arc System Works, those of Guilty Gear fame, and has been garnering quite a bit of interest.

Elsewhere in the interview, Hiroki explained why there's a "Z" in the game's title. Dragon Ball FighterZ should be pronounced as "Dragon Ball Fighters".

"The fact that somebody would kind of make an assertion that somehow we're not keeping Minecraft players safe, I found - not only from a Microsoft perspective, but from a game industry perspective - like, I don't know why that has to become the dialogue". Also introduced in the Androids arc, Trunks first appeared after the Frieza saga to warn Goku and the other Z fighters of the dangers posed by the Androids created by Dr. Gero.
