DeAngelo Williams retires from pro wrestling, shifts focus back to football

DeAngelo Williams pro wrestling debut

DeAngelo Williams may have made his wrestling debut last week, but the former Pittsburgh Steelers running back still expects to be playing football this year. Williams recently went on ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter's podcast Know Them From Adam and said that he has retired from wrestling, and will be looking to get back on the football field this year.

Williams explained that he agreed to the match to honor his late uncle who passed away five years ago.

Williams, who is now a free agent, teamed with "Moose" in a tag team match against Chris Adonis and Eli Drake, and picked up the victory by pinning Adonis after hitting a frog splash onto a table. "I'm doing it a disservice, and I respect this game way too much to play it well after my prime because all I'm doing now is bringing down the game". But when I got in the ring and the crowd was cheering and my adrenaline was pumping, I got super high and I was up there forever.

"But me and Josh Mathews are friends — he's a color commentator — so he actually got in the ring for the first time as well with this card Slammiversary", Williams said.

He is now turning his attention to the upcoming football season, stating, "I'm definitely playing football [this year]". And I just couldn't do it.' It looked easy, but I just couldn't do it. I mean, not guess.

But there is no guarantee that Williams will be able to come back to Pittsburgh. "You wanna wrestle?' I was like, 'Nah, I'm OK, ' but in my mind I'm thinking, 'This will be that one match for my uncle, '" Williams said. "I kind of protected my face with my hands, my arms, but you couldn't see that part".

"It goes to show the tables are real". I'm waiting on the phone call with a G.M. or head coach or whoever decides they need my services. I'll be ready. You can rest assured of that. If the Steelers run into injuries, could Williams be waiting by the phone? "I work out every day".
