BCCI forms 4-member committee to finalise assistant coaches

No formal decision has been taken on the appointments of Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan

As per the minutes of the meeting accessed by PTI, the "appointments of other consultants will be decided by the committee in consultation with the head coach".

Zaheer reportedly did not wish to commit more than 100 days but with Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) insisting, it is now a done deal for 150 days.

The CoA also formed a four-member panel, which includes CK Khanna, the acting BCCI president, Johri, Edulji and Amitabh Choudhary, the acting board secretary, to decide on the remuneration of Shastri and the support staff.

"Dravid will obviously not travel with the team to Sri Lanka as he has to be with the "A" side in South Africa and Zaheer Khan and Ravi Shastri will take charge during the upcoming tour". And we have decided that for further coaches and others, we must have a discussion with Mr. Ravi Shastri.

On the status of Dravid and Zaheer, he said, "It's not an appointment". That recommendation will be acted upon in consultation with the head coach.

It may be recalled that earlier Dravid was chosen as the consultant for batting skills, whereas Khan was chosen for bowling skills. Another cricket board press release yesterday came with a tweak as it said: "After taking the decision on his (Shastri) selection, the CAC consulted him and decided on having Batting and Bowling consultants on overseas tour-to-tour basis, as per the requirement of the team". However, the committee did not implicitly specify whether Dravid and Khan were on board as consultants for specific overseas tours, as had been claimed by the BCCI.

Shastri has made it clear that he wants Bharat Arun as the bowling coach. The duo was hand-picked by Shastri, when he became the team director in 2014.

The letter also said that CAC felts that Shastri would function better with Zaheer and Dravid in his team and also mentioned that he had no problem and readily agreed to this idea. A day after his appointment, Shastri welcomed the move of appointing experienced players like Dravid and Zaheer in such roles but explained in no uncertain terms that he should get a call on who will be part of his full-time support staff. That recommendation will be acted upon in consultation of the head coach, ? he said.
