Bayern end bid to sign Arsenal's Sanchez

Arsene Wenger appears confident that Alexis Sanchez will stay at Arsenal beyond the summer

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has announced his side will not be signing Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez, because a deal "makes no sense".

Arsenal face a battle to keep their prized assets at the Emirates Stadium this summer, especially as many of them have less than 12 months remaining on their contracts, but it seems Arsene Wenger is confident of a positive outcome.

And each of those clubs could offer Sanchez the Champions League football he craves - although he's admitted this weekend that his future is not in his hands.

Manchester City are keen to land the 28-year-old who has been given the chance all summer to tell the Gunners faithful he is going nowhere.

Sanchez will be out of contract at the end of next season but the Gunners are said to be prepared to lose him for nothing next year rather than agree a deal with City this summer.

Speaking to the media at the pre-season tour, Mertesacker said, "He needs a break now".

"I know they're not going to win it but if you're in it you're going to be playing bigger games and at the moment you're taking away 20-dd goals and 10 or 11 assists, and he's a handful".

Alexis Sanchez expressed his desire to play in Champions League.

"I have made my decision, but now the decision has to be taken by Arsenal", Sanchez said. The Southampton captain is thought to favour a move to Anfield after the Reds cooled their interest having been reported to the Premier League for making an illegal approach.
