Bomb threat prompts student evacuations at UCLA

Thousands of students poured out of their dorm rooms and into Drake Stadium Wednesday night, after a bomb threat on campus. Campus police said the threat was called in by an unknown person. Campus police asked for assistance from the local police bomb squad.

The phoned-in bomb threat was reported about 10:10 p.m.at UCLA Sunset Recreation Center, according to a UCLA official.

The rec center is in the vicinity of Sproul Hall, Sproul Landing, and Headrick Hall, which were evacuated. At midnight, students were from Dykstra Hall and De Neve Plaza Hall were allowed to return to their digs.

The incident comes hours after the conclusion of the first orientation programme for new UCLA students.

Residents were advised to stay indoors unless otherwise instructed.

"This is really precautionary at this point", Haas told The Los Angeles Times.
