Acrobat dies after plunging 100ft in front of 35,000 people

Monroy had been performing in a box hanging from a crane approximately 100 feet from the ground and though he appeared to be wearing a harness, music fans at the Mad Cool Festival in Madrid looked on in shock as he dangled from the box temporarily before falling to his death.

They also expressed their condolences to Mr Aunion Monroy's family, saying they "regret the awful accident".

The band headed to Twitter to say they had just left the stage at the "Mad Cool Festival" to hear the disturbing news that a very courageous artist named Pedro had lost his life in a tragic accident.

Despite criticism on social media, the organisers of the Mad Cool Festival decided not to postpone it, citing security reasons in a statement released on Friday night.

Slowdive, which was due on stage after Green Day, suspended its performance, saying: "Due to the tragic accident in Mad Cool this night we feel it is not appropriate to play. A very courageous artist named Pedro lost his life tonight in a tragic accident", Green Day tweeted.

She wrote: "To all the friends of my brother Pedro Aunion Monroy".

Mr Aunion Monroy was a highly experienced and well-respected dancer. I'm sorry to tell you that he died today.

The Mirror reports that the festival was delayed 30 minutes, but Mad Cool organizers chose to move ahead with the scheduled performances.

After only a slight delay, Green Day's set continued as scheduled. "We send our most honest condolences to all his family".

"He was doing what he liked the most, a show at Mad Cool".

"Tomorrow, Saturday 8th, during the festival we will pay tribute to the artist".

The acrobat was a director of In Fact performing arts company and he lived in Brighton, England. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends". "We are torn apart". 'Thoughts go out to the family of the performer.
