Trump's legal plan built in his image: Fight, fight, fight

Judicial Watch Sues for Comey Memo

Asked on NBC whether Trump's social media commentary may be created to intimidate Rosenstein or Mueller, Rubio said, "I have no basis on which to make a decision on what his intent is" but added that the tweets "in no way" will impede the work of the investigation.

Department of Justice-appointed Special Counsel Robert Mueller is conducting what is generally called a preliminary inquiry into possible obstruction of justice involving President Donald Trump, as it pertains to his broader investigation into Russian meddling in the US presidential election.

He insisted Trump's tweet was not a real statement, explaining that the message was in response to a Washington Post report suggesting the president was under investigation. That investigation is closely tied to Comey, and so is Mueller.

Mr. Sessions thus came through his testimony reinforced as an early committed soldier and loyalist in the Donald Trump conservative army. Schiff said his panel is looking forward to getting a response from the White House on whether recordings exist.

The discussions will focus on ensuring that the subcommittee's investigation is not interfering with Mueller's probe, one source said.

But he contradicted himself on "Fox News Sunday", where he first told Fox News' Chris Wallace that Trump isn't being investigated, and later slipped and said he was - then conceded by saying he "read the mind" of the special prosecutor.

Rosenstein appointed Mueller to oversee the FBI investigation into alleged Russian meddling in last year's election and related matters. It also sent a letter to Comey asking for any notes or memos.

Several congressional panels continue to investigate Russians meddling in the USA election which has cast a shadow over the early months of Trump's presidency.

NBC's Chuck Todd pressed Sekulow on whether Trump had made the decision to fire former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James B. Comey himself or at the recommendation of deputy attorney general Rod J. Rosenstein. It involves a choice between investigating or relying on former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, a longtime close friend of Mueller's.

Schiff says if the panel can't get an answer then he believes a subpoena will be needed.

The president wrote on Twitter Friday: "I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director! That means there should exist on some server somewhere in the White House, a very thorough record of the kind of phone calls that nay investigator of the Trump campaign and the Trump White House's ties to Russian Federation any obstruction of justice regarding the investigation of those ties, should be able to access", Perlstein said. According to Comey, Trump allegedly asked him to "let it go" in reference to the investigation of Michael Flynn, Trump's former national security adviser who resigned after misleading Vice President Pence about meetings with Russia's ambassador.

And Senate intelligence committee member Sen. King said the "collusion, the cooperation aspect of the investigation is not over". When you consider all of the money Trump is making by charging people to meet him at Mar-a-Lago, this is even more disturbing.

Rubio spoke on NBC, CNN and CBS.

Last week, Trump sent a tweet referring to being the victim of a "witch hunt".
