The Congressional Baseball Game for Charity took on a serious meaning this year, as organizers and attendees said it was a chance to show the nation that more unites Americans of both parties than divides them, and that the event could not be shut down by a gunman.

"We have a real mental health crisis and of course that should shift into the gun debate when you talk about should people with mental health challenges have access to guns but I don't think it's time to have that, at least I'm not ready to have that debate right on the backs of this shooting".

"So we all owe Steve a big, big thank you", Trump added.

After the hospital visit, Pence headed to Miami for a conference on Central America and meetings with the leaders of El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala.
