Trump lawyer says president is not under investigation

In spite of tweet, lawyer says Trump not under investigation

"There's a limitation on Twitter, as we all know", Sekulow said on CNN.

In a statement, Jamie Gorelick said she told Kushner to get "independent advice of a lawyer" on whether to "continue with us" after Robert Mueller was tapped to lead an FBI investigation into possible ties between Trump's presidential campaign and Russian Federation.

I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!

"The president is not a subject or target of investigation", said Trump legal team member, Jay Sekulow, in an interview.

Sekulow accidentally told Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace that Trump 'was being investigated by the Department of Justice'.

"There has been no notification from the special counsel s office that the president is under investigation".

"If President Trump were to try to replicate [former President Richard] Nixon's Saturday Night Massacre by firing Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in addition to Mueller, Congress must unite to stop him - without respect to party, and for the sake of the nation", he said.

Any confirmation that Mueller has expanded the investigation to consider whether the President obstructed justice with the Comey firing would carry no guarantee of a guilty finding. His statement, however, contradicts Trump's tweet that it was Mueller who recommended Comey's dismissal.

Wallace: Sir you just said two times that he's being investigated.

Several congressional panels continue to investigate Russians meddling in the US election which has cast a shadow over the early months of Trump's presidency.

"As he helped introduce Trump here Friday on a podium bearing the presidential seal, Rubio spoke in a volume and cadence reminiscent of the speeches he delivered as a candidate for president", the Post reported.

Wallace: You just said that he's being investigated.

Several White House officials and Trump associates insisted on anonymity in order to discuss the president's views of the unfolding investigation. "Witch Hunt" - Sekulow said he was reacting only to a Washington Post story about the alleged probe citing anonymous sources.

Sekulow also opened a conflict between the President's political team and his legal one, hinting that the President's tweets should be discounted even though the White House said they are an authentic expression of his views.

Trump has repeatedly dismissed the investigations and reports that he is one of the targets of the probes as "a witch hunt". "That's impossible. The president cannot be investigated, or certainly cannot be found liable for engaging in an activity he clearly has power to do under the constitution". Mueller left his position at the firm to lead the investigation. In a statement, Gorelick says that after the appointment of the special counsel, she advised Kushner "to obtain the independent advice of a lawyer with appropriate experience as to whether he should continue with us". Rep. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House intelligence committee, said on ABC's "This Week" that the panel is looking forward to getting a response from the White House on whether recordings exist.

In the Senate, Sen.

Trump previously admitted in an interview with NBC News' Lester Holt days after Comey's May 9 ousting that the ongoing Russian Federation investigation influenced his decision to terminate the director.
