Siri vs. Alexa vs. Google Assistant: Apple Struggling With Privacy Concenrs

The speaker comes equipped with the A8 chip, the same processor found in the iPhone 6 from 2016.

Apple Inc kicked off its annual developer conference on Monday by unveiling a "Siri face" for the Apple Watch that will enable the voice-activated assistant to provide users with information like commute times for upcoming appointments. In other words, Sonos is now an Apple competitor.

Regardless of whether consumers care enough about audio quality, there are enough Apple fans who are likely hungry for a product like this as rivals Amazon and Google have come out ahead. The gadget itself isn't particularly remarkable, but it is an Apple gadget. Apple said HomePods can pick up the commands from across the room with a 6-microphone array (compared to the Echo's 7 microphones and Home's 2 microphone).

Analysts said the smart home speaker market is ripe for Apple.

The speaker will sell for about $350 in December in the U.S., United Kingdom and Australia.

Unsurprisingly, it also far outstripped an Amazon Echo for sound quality - but both that device and the Google Home are more geared towards AI than sound quality. It is high time that Apple wakes up to a new era of technology disruption and make real use of its voice assistance technology Siri, considering it was amongst the first voice assistants to hit the market, but never made it big. At WWDC, Apple announced the speaker category for HomeKit, so other speaker makers could more tightly integrate with iOS. It will block videos that start playing automatically, for instance, and can also prevent ads from following and profiling users.

The former employees also said Siri's progress has been slowed because of Apple's failure to set ambitious goals, shifting strategies and because vital team members left the company, with some joining Apple's competitors.

New iPhone features: New features coming to iPhones and iPads include messages that sync to Apple servers in the cloud.

Apple is also bringing the ability to send money to friends or other people through its payment service, Apple Pay.
