The congressman underwent another surgery Saturday, and the hospital says he is more responsive and speaking with family.

It's still unclear if the names on the list - which includes Republican Reps.

The source said investigators were not sure of the significance of the names and did not know if it was a list of people Hodgkinson was targeting. Flake was at Wednesday's Republican practice in Alexandria, VA, where James T. Hodgkinson opened fire on the players with a rifle.

Hospital officials previously said Scalise would need multiple operations and weeks to recover after a bullet tore through his pelvis, fracturing bones, injuring internal organs and causing severe bleeding.

Mika will remain in the intensive care unit through the weekend at least, the family said. Scalise has undergone number surgeries so far, and his recovery is expected to be lengthy.

Scalise was sedated Friday, but the husband and father of two has been able to respond to his doctors and family.

"Predicting the length of his hospital stay is hard today", said Dr. Jack Sava with MedStar Washington Hospital said.

"I feel a lot more confident and a lot more optimistic than I did two or three days ago", Sava said. U.S. Capitol Police Officer Griner was shot during the incident and Officer David Bailey was injured.

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise is showing signs of improvement, his office announced today. The gunman, who had lashed out against President Donald Trump and Republicans over social media, was killed in a shootout with police.

The doctor said U.S. Capitol Police Special Agent Crystal Griner, who was also wounded in the shooting, "sustained a gunshot wound to the ankle, and remains hospitalized in good condition".
