Mexico Snatches Late 2-2 Draw against Portugal in FIFA Confederations Cup

CRISTIANO RONALDO failed to appear for the usual post-match interview after being named man-of-the-match for Portugal in their 2-2 draw with Mexico.

Mexico's Hector Moreno, 3rd from right, scores his side's second goal during the Confederations Cup, Group A soccer match between Portugal and Mexico, at the Kazan Arena, Russia, Sunday, June 18, 2017.

Ronaldo insisted Wednesday he had a "clear conscience" after Spanish prosecutors accused the Real Madrid star of evading 14.7 million euros in tax through offshore companies. We know we still have lots of opportunities, there are two games remaining and that's why we're calm. "Both teams have great players, it will be a tough match".

The Confederations Cup is firmly under way in Russian Federation, with two of the pre-tournament favourites, Portugal and Chile, each in action on day two. Portugal's lone loss in this span was a 3-2 defeat against Sweden at home.

The result leaves the two nations with a point each, two points behind host nation, Russia, which opened their Confederations Cup account with a 2-0 win over New Zealand.

The news of his possible departure attracted the attention of global media covering Portugal at the eight-nation competition that serves as a warm-up for next year's World Cup. This one seems to be within reach, with pundits expecting a final between them and World Cup winners Germany. That being said, we know how unsafe Chicharito and Mexico can be.

"Ronaldo is motivated", young Portugal forward Andre Silva said.

Mexico captain Andres Guardado towed the same line and was adamant that technology will be good for the game over the long run. With a team well balanced by coach Fernando Santos, Portugal outscored opponents 28-4 during that streak, with five clean sheets.

Portugal led but Mexico fought back to earn a point in their Confederations Cup Group A opener. "I arrived at a good point in time, when the team had just won the (European) title".

Cristiano Ronaldo has made his first public remarks since news broke of his desire to leave Real Madrid, though he made sure only to focus on Portugal's latest match against Mexico. The match should be a close encounter and a tough one for Portugal. "People are very sad in Portugal and the players are thinking of all those who are suffering from what's happened". Three Mexican players (Raul Jimenez, Miguel Layun, and Hector Herrera) ply their trade in the Portuguese league.
