Malaysian among 4 foreign inmates who escape from Bali jail

Davidson was jailed for using a fraudulent travel document

INDONESIAN authorities said four foreign inmates have escaped on Monday from Kerobokan prison on the resort island of Bali using a tunnel.

Shaun Edward Davidson waiting to be transferred to Kerobokan jail in Bali after being charged with possessing another person's identity and overstaying his visa in April a year ago.

Badung Police chief, Yudith Satriya Hananta, said police had put a ban on any of the four escapees from exiting Bali through any travel gates.

"It is still being investigated whether they had escaped through the waste ground tunnel behind the clinic".

Prabawa said the four men were believed to have escaped through a 50cm by 70cm (20 inch by 28 inch) hole found in a wall that connects to a 15 metre-long (49 ft) water tunnel heading towards a main street.

A search is underway to find the missing men.

All the men are serving time for various offences at Kerobokan's Bedugul block.

He also has a warrant out for his arrest on drug offences in Perth. Said, 31, had 12 years and three months to go for drug offences.

Davidson was sentenced in September 2016 to a year behind bars for using another person's passport. They don't give you any food, they don't give you a bed. He later arrived in Indonesia on a one-month tourist visa.

Kerobokan, like many other Indonesian jails, has grappled with overcrowding.

"I guess I'm just lucky enough to have support from the outside", he said.

Bali prisoners broke out in Great Escape style.

Last month, more than 440 prisoners escaped from an overcrowded prison on Sumatra island when they were let out of their cells to take part in Friday Muslim prayers.

He's also wanted in Perth, Australia for drug charges and reportedly left the country for Indonesia on the same day that he was due to appear court.

"We have received a report about the four inmates escaping from the prison this morning", Mr Hananta said. He was captured that night at his wife's house.
