Late Chile goals beat Cameroon 2-0 in Confederations Cup

Five Bundesliga stars set to light up the Confederations Cup

The Confederations Cup match between Cameroon and Chile will be broadcast live on Fox Sports. It was a fair decision but it's hard as before this tournament the goal would have stood.

The video assistant referee system also played a role in Portugal's 2-2 draw with Mexico earlier in the day.

Chile's midfield general Arturo Vidal was understandably ecstatic after guiding his team to a 2-0 victory over Cameroon in the opening Group B game of the 2017 Confederations Cup on Sunday, thanking fans for all the love they showered during the game.

"The first scoring opportunity for Chile was the goal after 80 minutes so, obviously, we are disappointed as far as the result is concerned but we can be very proud of our performance".

The first half was nearly controlled entire by the Chileans.

Chile coach Juan Antonio Pizzi believes more time is needed for new technology to be understood after his team felt the positive and negative results of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system being tested at the Confederations Cup in Russian Federation. Vargas was on hand to convert the rebound, but the linesman flagged for offside.

After Vidal put Chile ahead in the 80th, Vargas scored Chile's second - but only after another review.

The 27-year-old was flabbergasted to see the linesman's flag raised, but video replays showed that Sanchez was onside in the build-up and Vargas' 34th global goal was given. The review found Sanchez hadn't been offside when he received the ball. For a two-time champion of South America, this will be the debut in the tournament, and the Indomitable Lions are the third time they measure their strength with the strongest teams of all continents.

But the Video Assistant Referee was called upon, leading to the goal being disallowed and the first half ending goalless, much to Arturo Vidal's fury.

"He could play in any position", said Dortmund's coach last season Thomas Tuchel, who managed to get the best out of the 23-year-old by tapping into both his defensive and attacking strengths, and encouraging him to flourish.

Ondoa had to palm away a Jose Fuenzalida shot two minutes later as Chile took firm control.

In the 16th minute, Cameroon knocked in a header but the goal was annulled due to a prior foul against Vidal. "But we have to be careful because I don't think people understand this new rule really well".
