Arsenal ‘ready to offer £5m’ for Sunderland duo Asoro and Mbunga-Kimpioka

Sunderland starlet Joel Asoro claims Arsenal are keen on signing him this summer but says the Gunners' interest in him has come as a shock.

"It came as a shock".

Asoro joined Sunderland in 2015 from Swedish outfit Brommapojkarna, despite reports linking the hot prospect with moves to Chelsea and Manchester United.

Arsenal and Everton are reported to be chasing the youngster, but so are Southampton, and Saints may feel they have a better chance of offering him regular first-team football.

The Sweden under-21 worldwide started out his career with Swedish side Brommapojkarna, but the academy graduate made the move to England in 2015 when he was snapped up by Sunderland.

Clear that makes me happy, but I try not to focus so much on it. I try not to think about it too much.

Sunderland are now without a manager following David Moyes' dismissal, while the club remains on the market.

The 18-year-old lit up the Under-23 league last term, bagging 15 goals in total - earning a Premier League debut under David Moyes as well.

Forward Asoro, 18, became the Black Cats' - and indeed Sweden's - youngest ever Premier League player last season, and is expected to feature as part of their squad in the Championship next season.

He said: "It's not something you can decide now". It does not develop me I need to find something else if we cannot agree. "I have to develop and can't just play U23 football all the time".
