76ers, Celtics agree on trade for No. 1 pick

Washington's Markelle Fultz has been projected to go first overall in the upcoming draft

The Boston Celtics have agreed to trade the first overall pick of the 2017 NBA Draft to the Philadelphia 76ers, according to David Aldridge of TNT. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Boston Celtics will be sending the pick to the Philadelphia 76ers. His visit was supposedly the final hurdle to clear the trade was being wrapped up.

While Fultz had been the favorite to go No. 1 before the trade, Kansas forward Josh Jackson was quickly gaining momentum as a potential surprise at No. 1 or No. 2.

"I had some stuff going on with my knee - I don't really want to address it", Fultz said. If the trade does happen, the Celtics might be more prone to take a forward as opposed to a guard.

If the deal happens, the first four spots in the draft would exactly mirror the first-four order from previous year.

Barring any other changes before Thursday, the first four spots in this year's draft order would mirror the first-four from last year: The 76ers at No. 1, the Los Angeles Lakers at No. 2, Celtic at No. 3 and the Phoenix Suns at No. 4.

The Celtics have a lot of very nice role players, but if Fultz becomes a star - and he has the tools to do so - this reasoning could look questionable in the future.

For the second straight year, it appears the Sixers will have the No. 1 overall pick.

"Anybody that's in front of me I'm going to try to take them out".

The Washington point guard - who averaged 23.2 points, 5.9 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game - is reportedly working out with the Sixers on Saturday and will be the team's target if a deal with Boston is reached. Fultz led the Pac-12 in scoring and finished No. 6 among all Division 1 players, and was the top freshman scorer in the US.

De'Aaron Fox is a lottery pick in every Mock Draft out there. While he may not be the best option on day one, as Fultz and Lonzo Ball are projected ahead of him, he does have the highest ceiling. He can slide off the ball and be a solid addition next to Simmons. The 76ers, with a core that includes Joel Embiid, Dario Saric, and Ben Simmons, could add another ball-handler, floor-spacer, and the top prospect in the draft in Fultz.

The biggest piece of news here is that the Sixers will be taking Markelle Fultz.

Philadelphia went 28-54 this past season, after winning 19, 18 and 10 games respectively in the previous three seasons. Simmons missed last season because of a Jones' fracture in his right foot.

"Jonathan Isaac would be in that group if he was a little more developed and stronger", one executive said.
