Woman cuts off man's genitals for trying to rape her

Kerala: Woman chops off genitals of self-styled godman who allegedly tried to rape her

A 54-year-old Swami was bobbitised by a 23-year-old girl in Thiruvananthapuram after she was subjected to alleged sexual harassment for the past five years. She reportedly added that he would allegedly rape her whenever he gets the opportunity.

According to a police complaint filed by the woman, the accused, identified as Swamy Gangeshananda, a member of the Kollam-based Panmana Ashram, had been raping her at her home for the last eight years.

On Friday night, when Hari made advances, the woman, who had hidden a knife under her pillow, cut off his genitals.

He was brought to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College hospital at around 12.40 am on Friday, with his genital severed nearly 90 percent, a hospital statement said.

He has been booked under Section 376 (Rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO).

Local reports say Hariswamy had been a "family friend" for several years, after befriending the mother of the woman.

Police said that the man was sexually abusing the girl ever since she was a Class X student.

"It was a courageous step, no doubt about it", Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan said after he was told about the incident. A team of medical professionals conducted a plastic surgery and he is now reported to be out of danger. Thereafter, she called the police.

Police said the woman will also be charged under relevant sections of self-defence. Her father suffered a paralysis attack a few years ago.

The police have registered a case against Swami.

"Such an act by anyone, especially when it comes under the guise of a religious tag, is in no way acceptable", she said.
