Texas man sues woman for texting in date

Guy who sued date for texting during Guardians of the Galaxy defends himself

With this being one of his pet peeves, he asked her to step outside to text. "It was kind of the first date from hell", claimed Vezmar.

According to a report by the Austin American-Statesman‚ 37-year-old Brandon Vezmar of Round Rock‚ Texas‚ filed a claim with the United States equivalent of the Small Claims Court for $17.31 (around R230) last week.

Her date, Brandon Vezmar became so pissed off that he made a decision to... sue her.

Leaving in her vehicle - in which they had driven in together on the date - Brandon was left stranded in the cinema.

She said she refused to reimburse him because "he took me out on a date".

"She was behaving as if it was normal", he told Inside Edition.

She refused and walked out after Vezmar repeated his requests. He reportedly contacted her friends and family to get her address. When he asked her to take it outside, she did so and then left the theatre, leaving him without a ride as they had arrived together in her vehicle.

"I was holding my phone down without bothering anyone", replied the "date from hell".

"This is insane", she told the newspaper.

I did have a very brief date with Brandon, that I chose to end prematurely.

Vezmar said her behaviour was a "threat to civilised society".

Vezmar told KVUE, "I am fully aware of the weirdness of this situation".

The lawsuit he filed says her texting was a "direct violation" of the cinema hall's policy and that she affected the "viewing experience" of the patrons present.

Meanwhile, the cinema hall's chief executive Tim League has offered to compensate Vezmar with the amount sought in a gift certificate if he agrees to drop the lawsuit, the BBC reported.

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn caught wind of the story and reacted to it on Twitter Tuesday and joked, "She deserves jail time!"
