Subramanian Swamy: Rajinikanth unsuitable for Tamil Nadu politics

I have been in Tamil Nadu for 44 years and for just 23 years, I had been in Karnataka.

Rajinikanth's entry into politics has been at the centre of much speculation and chatter for years now. With former chief minister J. Jayalalithaa's demise in December a year ago and with ailing DMK chief M. Karunanidhi out of action in the last few months, observers have pointed out the political vacuum in the state. But on Friday, the Thalaivar saying that the "political system needs to be changed", seems to be a big hint on his entry into the political arena.

Just before the 1996 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Rajinikanth had said that "even god can not save Tamil Nadu" if Jayalalithaa returned to power.

In 1996, during the Tamil Nadu assembly election campaign, Rajinikanth denounced J. Jayalalithaa and her politics. Rubbishing the outsider tag, Rajinikanth said he is a pure Tamil now despite his origins from Karnataka.

The BJP has been trying to rope in the superstar for its entry into the turbulent Tamil Nadu politics. Now I am 67 years old.

"I have responsibilities and works, same with you". All of you supported me, gave me a good name, lots of money and fame. I have lots of work, all of you also have work to do, so go back and start doing it.

In what appeared to be another statement of political intent, Rajinikanth today urged his fans to wait for the "impending war".

Seeman and DMK leader M.K Stalin, about whom Rajinikanth made complimentary references in his speech on Friday, thanked Rajinikanth and expressed their happiness.

Twice his supporters and actors have come out in the open floating some "party" or "outfit" in a bid to pressure Rajini, as he is fondly called, to enter politics.

"If Jayalalithaa is voted back to power, even God can not save Tamil Nadu", the actor had said then.

However, the star added, "If in case I decide to join politics, then those making money will not be entertained".

The fans of Rajnikanth also believes that this year Thalaivar's birthday will be more special as their superstar will make the announcement whether he would dive into the pool of politics or not.
