Parameters adopted to accord the rankings include cleanliness in party, main entry area, platform waiting room, passenger feedback and images geo-tagged from a 24 x 7 control room established to monitor progress, the release said. Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and Beas in Punjab are the cleanest stations in A1.In A category stations, Bhuj was ranked 10th cleanest station in the country. "They have been continuously asking Railways to clean up its act, but this has not happened", he said.

This year second survey was conducted by Quality Council of India (QCI) who with the help of their partners has conducted the survey of 407 major railway stations (75 A1 category and 332 A category stations) of Indian Railways.

"A" category station Rameswaram scored the lowest score in the state and other "A" category stations like Tambaram, set to become the third terminal, Arakkonam and Mayiladuthurai, are among the other lowest scoring stations.

This was the third survey on cleanliness done by the railways to keep a tab on rail premises as part of its "Swachh Rail" campaign.

Khamman was declared the second cleanest in A category (annual passenger revenue is between Rs 6 and 50 crore). Ahmedanagar station was ranked at 3rd position.

He said that Vishakhapatnam has emerged as the victor in Cleanliness Index by securing Ist position in A1 category, Beas has emerged as Ist victor in "A" category station. Clean toilets at platforms, clean tracks and dustbins at stations were some of the criteria. The survey was carried out in 407 stations. These results are specific to all the A1 stations, which are classified as those that contribute more than Rs 50 crore in revenue every year. "We want all stations to be clean". All suburban stations are in C category, while all halts are in F category.

The minister also claimed that by 2019 all trains will be equipped with bio-toilets and his ministry will ensure onboard cleanliness service through mobile apps.
