Rupert Murdoch Introduces President Trump at U.S.-Australia Event

US President Donald Trump has arrived in NY after phoning Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to apologise for a delay to their meeting.

After the events with Turnbull, which include a black-tie dinner on the Intrepid to mark the 75th anniversary of the World War Two Battle of the Coral Sea, Trump is expected to go to his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, for the weekend.

White House spokesman Sean Spicer said Trump was looking forward to the meeting and "showcasing the enduring bonds, deep friendship and close alliance the United States has with Australia". In it, the United States agreed to take in as many as 1,250 refugees that Australia was holding at offshore detention centers.

Donald Trump has praised Australia's universal public health care system just moments after celebrating the passage of a bill that could leave millions of Americans without health coverage.

Trump spoke at a gala dinner aboard the USS Intrepid in NY to commemorate the 75th anniversary of that battle.

"He's got some other things he wants to take care of before he leaves town, and so it's nothing more than that", deputy White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said.

Trump told reporters he and Turnbull "get along great" and said the media had exaggerated what happened on the call.

Donald Trump is still coming to New York City Thursday for the first time as president, but he won't be going home as initially planned - or anywhere in midtown, apparently.

Trump is also meeting with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull after he makes his remarks.

"We can put the refugee deal behind you and move on", Turnbull said Thursday. That was a big exaggeration.

It was Trump's first trip back to NY, his home and where he made his name and fortune, since the former real estate executive moved into the White House in January.

Trump is set to travel to Manhattan to meet with the Australian prime minister and give a speech marking the anniversary of a famed World War II battle. It's one of the most handsome places on Earth.

Turnbull is said to have irritated Trump during his phone call as he reportedly expected the American to honour the deal.

Not everyone in heavily Democratic New York was happy about the Republican president's visit, his first since he left in January to be sworn in as president.

Mr Trump rejected the accuracy of the report as fake news. "I mean we're not babies but we had a great call, right?"

"We hope to be worthy of the sacrifices of every service member who was made in our name, past and present", Trump said.

Repealing Obamacare was a key election promise for Trump during the presidential campaign.

The two leaders attended a dinner aboard the Intrepid, which is now turned into a museum docked in the Hudson River.
