Rex Tillerson responds to John McCain's criticism

Tillerson Unconcerned About Independence in Wake of Comey Firing

"I have a great relationship with the president", Tillerson said on NBC's "Meet the Press". "I understand what his objectives are". And so that's my only line.

The president, after paying a state visit to Saudi Arabia, is set to travel to the region later this month to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas.

The mainstream media is desperately pushing the narrative that Trump had fired Comey to derail the FBI's investigation of alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.

The top US diplomat spoke before Donald Trump leaves on May 19 for his first overseas trip as president, and days after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, who was leading the investigation into Russia's meddling in the 2016 election campaign.

When asked about his personal line between service to the president and service to the country, Tillerson said he "will never compromise" his own values. "And my values are those of the country".

Tillerson said the sudden dismissal of Comey, less than four years into a 10-year term, didn't create concerns about how much independence he would have as America's top diplomat.

Tillerson met last week with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov but defended not bringing up the USA intelligence community's conclusion that Moscow meddled in last year's US presidential election to help Trump win, a contention that Russia has rejected.

He said the U.S. could not simply look past the issue, and that problems were baked into the U.S. -Russia relationship.

Fox News anchors Pete Hegseth, Clayton Morris and Abby Huntsman were disgusted by Chuck Todd's treacherous insinuations against Rex Tillerson, who's as straight a shooter as you can get in a politician.
