Is the Comey Memo Even Real?

The Latest: Ryan says no rush to judgment on Comey firing

Comey had testified exactly 10 years ago in the Senate about his famous hospital-room showdown with former U.S. President George W. Bush's White House aides at John Ashcroft's bedside, CNN reported.

The leaders of the Senate Intelligence Committee on Wednesday asked the FBI to turn over memos prepared by former Director James Comey detailing conversations he had with the White House and Justice Department about the FBI's Russian Federation investigations.

In his role as chairman of the House Oversight Committee, Chaffetz on Tuesday requested "all memorandum, notes, summaries and recordings referring or relating to any communications between Comey and the President" in a letter addressed to acting Federal Bureau of Investigation director Andrew McCabe.

On Tuesday, The New York Times reported that Comey had written notes about a conversation with Trump where the president urged him to drop the FBI investigation into former national security advisor Mike Flynn's alleged links to Russian Federation and Turkey.

Amash became the first Republican lawmaker to raise the specter of impeachment.

"I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go", the New York Times reported Trump said, citing the Comey memo.

Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell said it would be "appropriate and timely for the Senate to hear directly" from Comey in a setting open to the public. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, on Wednesday said the committee planned to invite Comey to testify during a public hearing next week.

The committee made the requests Wednesday in two separate letters, one to Comey and one to McCabe.

Asked what he thinks of Trump presidency, Putin said it's up to the American people to judge but his performance can only be rated "only when he's allowed to work at full capacity", implying that someone is hampering Trump's efforts.

Multiple investigations are ongoing into Russia's meddling in the 2016 election.

Grassley also told reporters that if there was interference, "then it seems to me Comey should have taken action on that interference".

The Justice Department has appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller as a special counsel to oversee a federal investigation into potential coordination between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign to influence the 2016 presidential election.
