English club Nottingham Forest bought by Olympiakos owner

Sportsmail revealed on Wednesday night that the EFL had given the 100 per cent takeover the green light, with Marinakis and consortium partner Socrates Kominakis ending the unpopular five-year ownership of Fawaz Al Hasawi.

Marinakis, the shipping magnate who also owns the Greek champions Olympiakos, has passed the EFL owners' and directors' test and his NF Football Investments will now be permitted to purchase 100% of the club's shares from the previous owner, Fawaz al-Hasawi.

Shipowner and businessman Marinakis has stated his plans to make Forest "the model club" in England for interacting with supporters, after a hard season in the Championship.

Nicholas Randall QC is set to take over as chairman, while Ioannis Vrentzos - who worked under Marinakis at Olympiakos - is Forest's new chief executive. The controversial Greek businessman and owner of Olympiacos has vowed to return the Championship side to "the glory days". Our team has demonstrated that we know how to create success in football by having won title after title with Olympiacos in Greek football.

"What we have achieved in national and European football with Olympiacos FC, we want to duplicate with Nottingham Forest".

Marinakis, who moved to Watford as a 15-year-old and attended university in the United Kingdom, has guaranteed the future of the manager, Mark Warburton, and vowed to reward supporters for their loyalty to the club that last played Premier League football in 1999. Our objective is to bring back the glory days. "In this regard I am pleased to confirm that we have agreed a contract extension for Frank McParland as Sport Director".

The two new schemes are an Advisory Council, to be made up of supporters and university representatives, and Youth Council, which will represent the views of the younger generation.

"We shall bring back as many people as possible, in particular of course former players, who played a decisive role in building Forest's legacy", Marinakis added.

'We know a lot of players, managers, clubs, officials in various parts of the world in worldwide football, agents - all this can help us to put all our connections together and try to do our very best for Nottingham'.
