Dodgers reinstate Adrian Gonzalez from 10-day DL

Marlins Begin Road Trip Through California Desperate For Wins

The Los Angeles Dodgers ended a three-game slide and look to start an extended winning surge when they open a 10-game homestand against the struggling Marlins on Thursday.

Gonzalez reported to spring training with right elbow inflammation, which radiated pain and caused stiffness in his forearm.

Justin Turner was immediately removed from the game and replaced by Chris Taylor and is scheduled to have an MRI test done on Friday.

Gonzalez was batting.255 with 11 RBI's and six runs scored in 105 plate appearances this season.

Los Angeles Dodgers' Yasiel Puig rounds the bases after his two-run home run off Miami Marlins starting pitcher Edinson Volquez during second inning of a baseball game in Los Angeles, Thursday, May 18, 2017. Hyun-Jin Ryu and Rich Hill are the candidates to start whichever game Maeda doesn't pitch.

"The strength was there still, which is a positive", Roberts said.

"I do expect the ball to come off better", Manager Dave Roberts said prior to the game. He pitched an immaculate inning, striking out three batters on nine pitches in an inning.

Volquez is winless in seven starts this season and has walked an alarming 24 in just 34 2/3 innings.

"I'm good, I'm playing", Gonzalez said in a brief exchange with reporters before the game.

"Yeah", Gonzalez said, "that's why I'm active".

Marlins: RHP Tom Koehler (bursitis right shoulder) was placed on the 10-day disabled list.

Marlins: LHP Justin Nicolino (0-0, 1.50 ERA) threw 7 1/3 scoreless innings in his season debut at Dodger Stadium a year ago.

Mattingly will give the ball to the 25-year-old Nicolino, who was 1-3 with Triple-A New Orleans before being recalled last weekend.

Clayton Kershaw figures to start Tuesday on five days' rest following the Dodgers' off-day Monday. He had a quality start against the Braves, allowing one run in six innings.
