Bike Fayetteville plans festivities for National Bike to Work Day May 19

Bike to Work Day scheduled for Friday

Austin is encouraging people to ditch their cars and take their bicycle to work this Friday as part Bike to Work Day.

The Savannah Bicycle Campaign will offer free coffee and healthy snacks from 7:30 a.m.to 9:00 a.m. on the corner of Lincoln and Henry Streets for commuters who choose to bike to work. "Not sitting in a small vehicle getting agitated at the radio, or the news or other people".

29 are the remaining Bike to Work Days for the year. The event is one of many across the country during the annual celebration of active transportation.

With the welcome return of warm weather, May is recognized as National Bike Month.

In addition to being fun, the Bicycle Coalition say there are also many practical reasons to support biking to work. A month designated to encourage people to get out and ride, and to highlight all the benefits riding a bike. From 2000 to 2013, bicycling commuting rates increased 105 percent in large bicycle friendly communities, increased 62 percent across the country and increased 31 percent in non-bicycling friendly communities.

"Within our 121 state parks and more than 2.2 million acres of state forestland, we are blessed with 11,000 miles of trails, all offering unlimited biking terrain and opportunities", said Dunn.
