Reema Lagoo, who played mother to top Bollywood actors, dies

Reema Lagoo, a Bollywood actress who often played the role of the "loving mother", died after suffering a cardiac arrest on Wednesday night in a hospital in Mumbai. Her son-in-law, Vinay Waikul said she was taken to the hospital after she complained of chest pain at around 1 am. She passed away due to a heart attack around 3.15 AM. Before meeting the attractive actor on the sets of the iconic film, Renuka witnessed the acting prowess of Reema when she was an ace Marathi theatre artist.

Superstar Aamir Khan and wife Kiran Rao, and actors Renuka Shahane, who worked with her in Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Sachin Pilgaonkar along with his daughter Shriya visited the actress's residence to pay respect.

On television, she was seen in prominent roles in "Khandaan", "Shrimaan Shrimati", "Tu Tu, Main Main", "Do Aur Do Paanch", and ongoing serial on StarPlus, Mahesh Bhatt's "Naamkaran".

At 2 pm, the body was taken to the Oshiwara Hindu Crematorium and the funeral rites began by 2.30 pm. Rest in peace lovely lady. Viraf also spoke about how they made up after a small tiff on the sets and how she was his mentor and guide on Naamkarann.

Lagoo portrayed grey shades playing Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan's mother in the 1994 film Yeh Dillagi, and also while essaying mother to Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Mohnish Behl in the 1999 Rajshri release Hum Saath Saath Hain. Reema played mother to Sanjay Dutt in a number of films including "Saajan" and "Vaastav".

Earlier in the day, he tweeted a picture of the actress from her film "Hum Saath Saath Hain" and wrote, "RIP. I had the privilege of directing her.#RIPReemaLagoo". Reema Lagoo could pull off the character really well. "I have done a lot of work with her, and there's so much to say". She started her career with Marathi theatre. She was nominated twice for Filmfare best supporting actor for Maine Pyaar Kiya and Aashiqui Her tryst with Marathi film Reshamgaath (2002) earned her the best actress award at the Maharashtra State Film Awards. Now that Reema is no more, like Juhi points out, Sooraj Barjatya's films would be incomplete without Reema. She was a great actor and a greater human being.
