HTC One A9 on display showcasing front and back view

The new Xiaomi MI 6 powerhouse features a 5.15-inch display just like the Mi 5 before it, complete with the same full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels.

Camera setup is a combination of two 12 megapixel lenses utilized in a way much similar to iPhone 7. The Mi 6 also wields 6GB of RAM, the most Xiaomi has ever offered in a smartphone, and 64GB of built-in storage.

When it comes to design, the new Xiaomi Mi 6 sports a metal and glass construction with a curved back that makes it look and feel premium. It is covered by a curved glass body on all four sides, and features a stainless steel frame. The out-of-box update is the removal of headphone jack from it, making the user to use the USB jack type-C port for music or headphones.

According to the company, the Snapdragon 835 chipset has been developed on the 10nm process and hence consumes up to 25 per cent less power than its previous generation chipsets. The Xiaomi Mi 6 prices start at RMB 2,499, which roughly translates into Rs 23,500. As for selfies, an 8-megapixel camera should be enough for snapping great self-portraits. When the Mi6 goes on sale April 28, it will only hit shelves in China.

And with a price tag starting at around $360 (a bit higher than Xiaomi's usual flaghips but still very affordable), it looks like an attractive alternative for budget-conscious buyers drooling over the S8. The smartphone is also splash-resistant, which means it should easily handle the occasional spill without taking any damage. While the secondary rear camera comes with f/2.6 aperture, 52mm portrait lens. An worldwide expansion to "selected" markets will come later, Xiaomi said in an official statement, although no specific dates were available.

Everyone is talking about the Galaxy S8 this week, but Xiaomi is trying to take some of the attention away from Samsung's juggernaut. Color options include Black, White and Blue.

"The 2x2 802.11ac MU-MIMO Wi-Fi greatly enhances Mi 6's wireless performance, enabling better reception indoors, with fewer blind spots", the company added. The ceramic edition packs 128GB of storage space. If it is launched at the price which we are anticipating, Xiaomi Mi 6 has the potential to disrupt the legacy created by OnePlus 3 and 3T previous year. The Mi 6 offers all these technological advancements but for fraction of the cost of high-end phones possessing these features. While the company said that an worldwide release for "selected" markets will be announced at a later date, it will remain largely focused on its home turf and other emerging markets like India.
