Serena Williams expecting a baby this fall, rep confirms

Novak also confirmed that Serena won't be able to play for the rest of the year but was looking forward to make a comeback in 2018.

Serena Williams is going to be a mom!

Just minutes ago, Williams took to Snapchat where she revealed that she is 20 weeks along in her pregnancy.

Williams won the Australian Open in January and would have been pregnant at the time of that success, if she is now at the 20-week stage.

The sports world got what it thought was major news on Wednesday when Serena Williams posted what appeared to be a nice little baby bump to Snapchat with the caption "20 weeks", insinuating she was almost five months pregnant. "I'm happy to confirm Serena is expecting a baby this fall", Novak told the Guardian. She has not competed since, citing a knee injury when withdrawing from tournaments at Indian Wells, California, and Key Biscayne, Florida.

Serena is engaged to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, and the pair will welcome the baby later this year.

Tennis star Serena Williams could take a pass on Wimbledon if physical changes from her pregnancy such as balance and blood flow affect her preparation and performance, researchers who study pregnancy in high-performing athletes said.

The next Grand Slam tournament this year is the French Open, which starts in May.

Williams has made no secret of her desire to have a family.

Neither Williams or her management team were immediately available for comment, according to Reuters. "The tweet from US Open's account read, ".@serenawilliams will have a new pride & joy to hug and call her own soon!

Williams holds the most major titles in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles combined amongst active players. Only one woman has won more: Margaret Smith Court, who claimed part of her 24 during the amateur era.
