Sam Warburton Lions captaincy against All Blacks leaked on Twitter

STUART HOGG believes that he and Tommy Seymour have their Glasgow Warriors and Scotland team-mates to thank for being named in the British & Irish Lions squad for this summer's tour to New Zealand.

"It will be very, very tough but what an opportunity to go to one of the biggest rugby playing nations in the world and try to do something special".

"New Zealand are the only team I haven't beaten yet in my worldwide career and it's something I'd love to do", said Warburton after the squad was announced.

As with any Lions selection, much of the debate yesterday centred on those who were left out, with in-form Munster lock Donnacha Ryan the hardest done-by of the Ireland contingent.

He made his NRL debut for the Wests Tigers in 2007 and was capped by Samoa 12 months later before returning to south-east Queensland with the Brisbane Broncos. "They have some very, very good goalkickers, no disputing that, and goalkicking is very important to the game, no disputing that".

Te'o enjoyed a successful two-year stint with South Sydney in 2013 and 2014, where he helped the Rabbitohs end their long wait for a 21st premiership before announcing a move to rugby union with Irish side Leinster.

His former housemate Burgess struggled and returned to Redfern after just a year, having been made a scapegoat for England's disastrous World Cup campaign on home soil.

There is nobody in that Lions squad apart from Stuart Hogg that excites me.

Sam Warburton has been confirmed as the Captain.

Coach Warren Gatland said: "Sam is a great player, an outstanding leader and a winning Lions captain".

Gatland has selected a 41-man squad for the 10 fixtures culminating in a three-Test series against New Zealand, including surprise call-ups for Ireland full-back Jared Payne, England wing Jack Nowell and Wales back row Ross Moriarty.

The forward pack features prop Kyle Sinckler, who is yet to start a test for England and No 8 Ross Moriarty, who joins Welsh compatriots Warburton, Justin Tipuric and Toby Faletau in the back row division.

On the eve of the announcement, Warburton attended a private dinner with all the living Lions captains in the Hilton Syon Park Hotel, near Twickenham.

Hansen said he expects the Lions to play an uncomplicated style typical of what Gatland uses with the Wales team.

There are two survivors from 2009 - Alun Wyn Jones and Leigh Halfpenny - and 16 from four years ago.

Centres: Robbie Henshaw (Ireland), Jonathan Davies (Wales), Jonathan Joseph, Ben Te'o (England). "If you are happy when you turn up for training every Monday, if you keep morale up, you are more likely to get more out of the boys on the field".

Owen Farrell was included as a flyhalf, alongside Dan Biggar and Jonathan Sexton, whose Ireland halfback partner Conor Murray faces a fight to overcome a nerve injury to take his place alongside Rhys Webb and Ben Youngs in the battle for the number nine jersey.
