Needless to say, his loss impacted many, including current and former members of the New York Giants.

In said statement, the Chargers emphasized the sheer magnitude of Rooney's positive impact on the Steelers, the city of Pittsburgh and the league itself.

Operating the team since the 1960's, Rooney took over the family legacy from his father who founded the franchise.

David Morehouse, the Penguins' president and CEO, said Rooney "personified everything that's good about Pittsburgh". Mr. Rooney was a great man and true leader who always put others before himself.

"It was with deep sadness that I learned this evening of the death of Ambassador Daniel ("Dan") Rooney".
