MLB Predictions: Can Rays upset Red Sox at Fenway? 4/17/17

Boston Red Sox's Rick Porcello pitches during the first inning of a baseball game against the Tampa Bay Rays in Boston Friday

There are 10 games on the Major League Baseball schedule on Monday, but the one that stands out is the Boston Red Sox hosting the Tampa Bay Rays in the finale of a four-game series at Fenway Park.

Boston trailed 2-1 in the second when Miller dropped an easy toss from shortstop Tim Beckham for what would have been an inning-ending forceout on Marco Hernandez's grounder. The solid relief effort helped the Red Sox improve to 6-2 this season in games decided by two runs or fewer.

The Red Sox wouldn't let it stay that way for long, though.

It's nearly time for one of my favorite traditions in baseball: the 11 a.m. home game smack-dab in the middle of the Boston Marathon.

Wright gave Wakefield's worst a run for its money on Wednesday, allowing four of the 13 Orioles he faced to hit a home run before he was pulled. They've also struggled to win with Snell on the mound, dropping six of his last seven road games and going 1-4 in his last five road starts versus a team with a winning record.

Perhaps he needed more time though, because Moreland greeted the first pitch with a solo shot, his first home run with the Red Sox.

Nineteen years later, Dennis Eckersley still remembers the view from the bullpen of Pedro Martinez mowing down batter after overmatched batter in his first three starts for the Boston Red Sox.

The Boston Red Sox haven't had the best luck with new bullpen acquisitions, as Tyler Thornburg and Carson Smith can attest.

"I'll be fine", Ramirez said.

Sale breezed through the first inning, throwing only 11 pitches to retire the side in order, but the strikeouts and some long at-bats added to his 111-pitch total. He entered Sunday's game batting.241 (7-for-29) with zero homers and four RBIs. That didn't go as well, as Farquhar loaded the bases with one out on two singles (one an infield squibber) then a walk. The 33-year-old has also been walking more than usual, with five bases on balls compared to eight strikeouts.

The only run off Sale came in the third inning, on a two-out RBI single by Evan Longoria, who came to the plate 1-for-22 lifetime with eight strikeouts against Sale.

Said Cash: "The next 1,000 chances he gets on a play just like that, he's going to convert". At that point, I was just trying to time the jump.
