Harry Redknapp appointed Birmingham manager

Redknapp's most recent managerial role was taking charge of two matches for Middle Eastern country Jordan, but made his name in management as boss of Bournemouth, West Ham Southampton and Portsmouth.

Following Monday's 2-0 loss to Burton Albion, after which Zola resigned, Birmingham are just three points above the second-tier drop zone with three matches remaining.

Redknapp was as short as 4/5 with the bookies moments before his appointment as manager till the end of the season with his first game in charge being against rivals Aston Villa on 23rd April.

Steve Cotterill has been appointed as the assistant manager at Birmingham City after the club brought in Harry Redknapp as their new boss.

The Blues have picked up just 16 points out of a possible 66 in Zola's time in charge.

It is a real challenge. "It's not a massive one, but I said "if I don't keep you up, I don't want paying".

The Club is delighted to announce that Harry Redknapp is Blues new manager. When I got home at 2.30am my wife was asleep and she said "what happened?' I said 'I'm going to Birmingham until the end of the season".

"It's not easy. All I can do is try and install some confidence - two wins in 24 games is there for all to see". I haven't got a magic wand that's for sure, it's up to them.

In his last spell in the Championship, he led QPR to promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt, having also previously inspired Portsmouth to promotion.

"I've seen people on TV say all season, when a new manager has come in and after two days they've said - "ah, look at the difference in the team; look at he's got them pressing".

"I drove to London and had a meeting of about 10 to 15 minutes with them and said: 'I'll come and do it'".
