Dodge also claims that, thanks to its new "torque reserve launch system", the Demon can lift its front wheels off the deck for three feet after take-off, and deliver 1.8g of initial acceleration - the highest ever for a road-legal production auto.

Powered by what Dodge is calling the most powerful V-8 ever equipped in a production vehicle, the auto can do zero to 60 miles per hour in 2.3 seconds and launch down a quarter-mile of drag strip in 9.65 seconds. Speaking of NHRA, the American automaker says the Challenger SRT Demon is too fast for the drag strip, so it has been officially banned by NHRA.

FCA claims 0-to-60 test track times of 2.3 seconds. It has been recorded traveling 2.92 feet from stand still with its front tires airborne and a Guinness World Records to boot. Essentially a quarter-mile-focused version of the Challenger Hellcat, the Demon introduces loads of new performance features, and even more power. even though it's not technically legal on the drag strip.

If the ungodly roar from its exhaust doesn't alert you to what this is before you actually see it, then here's how to spot a Demon in the wild. The Demon can corner faster and stop more quickly than the Dodge's other performance cars, he said. But they will slow you down.

Unless you already build and race your own drag cars, you might need a little more than that to tame this monster.

After a number of teasers, Dodge today unveiled its much-awaited Challenger SRT Demon that it claims to be the fastest muscle vehicle in the world.

It is reported that the muscle vehicle will have three different power modes for its 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine.

The Demon comes standard with no passenger seats, front or back.

A higher-speed stall converter and shorter 3.09:1 diff ratio makes the most of the power, which is boosted by an air chiller system that cools the intake charge using the air conditioning refrigerant.

At 9.65 seconds it's also the world's quickest production auto over a quarter-mile.

The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon will be unveiled later today at 7:30 p.m. EDT. While the Demon has provisions for these parts, it's up to the owners to install them and get a competition license - or be satisfied with running pump gas and taking solace in knowing there's always a little more in reserve. Just 3,000 Demons will be built for the U.S.

Other creature comforts, like a Harman Kardon 19-speaker sound system, plus a power sunroof and heated and ventilated leather front seats, are available. For the true drag enthusiast, Dodge is offering the Demon Crate, a box of special equipment bearing the buyer's name, and the car's VIN and serial number.

Production is slated to begin this summer at Fiat Chrysler's Brampton Assembly Plant in Ontario, with deliveries to dealers starting in the fall.
