Xi reportedly said China is decisively opposed to any behaviors running counter to U.N. Security Council resolutions, urging all the concerned countries to refrain from escalating tension on the peninsula.

Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed the tensions on the Korean peninsula in a phone conversation with his USA counterpart Donald Trump on Monday and called on the parties concerned to exercise restraint to avoid escalation of the situation in the region.

"We understand this detention is related to an investigation into matters not connected in any way with the work of PUST", the school said.

The Guardian reports that the Korean National Insurance Corporation (KNIC) is registered to the detached house on Kidbrooke Park Road - and this is a company that the European Union has already identified as identified as one that is generating "substantial" revenues that are being funnelled to North Korea.

Washington recently dispatched the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier strike group to the region as a warning to Pyongyang.

The detention was also confirmed by Martina Aberg, deputy chief of mission at the Swedish Embassy in Pyongyang. Last year, North Korea sentenced him to 10 years of hard labor on espionage charges. He said no one in the Trump administration has called them, and their main contact with the State Department was a low-level employee.

South Korea and Japan - both key U.S. allies in the region - have condemned frequent North Korean missile launches that are all banned under United Nations Security Council resolutions.

North Korea will celebrate the 85th anniversary of the foundation of the Korean People's Army this week, and such events have been marked by weapons tests in the past.

China is isolated North Korea's main economic lifeline and has been under increasing pressure to rein in its neighbor.

Abe and Trump agreed in a telephone conversation on April 9 to further cooperate on the threat posed by North Korea, according to the White House.

Gasoline appears to be in short supply in North Korea amid signs that China has cut off the flow to dissuade the North from conducting another nuclear test. It also launched a long-range rocket previous year that delivered a satellite into orbit, which Washington, Seoul and others saw as a banned test of missile technology. "They don't generally do nuclear weapons on holidays themselves".

But South Korea's Unification Ministry said Friday it will be on high alert in case North Korea conducts a test on the holiday.

It conducted a failed missile test a day after the Day of the Sun, the country's most important holiday, earlier this month, but not a nuclear test, which some predicted would happen.
