Gas prices rise as demand increases

State of Tennessee- $2.17, up 2.9 cents per gallon from last week's $2.14. Local gas prices have risen 14.3 cents per gallon in the past month and are up 22 cents a gallon, or more than 10 percent, from the same time a year ago.

Prices have increased 15 cents since the beginning of April - a 6 percent jump - after virtually no movement through the first three months of 2017.

"Demand for gasoline likely will be flat or slightly lower than a year ago because of the increase in price", DeHaan said.

DeHaan expects the price of gas to ease as refiners complete the transition to summer blend fuel.

AAA says the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas in Syracuse is now $2.45. It was much cheaper a year ago, averaging $2.11.

Last Wednesday's weekly report from the Energy Information Administration highlighted a larger than expected drop in crude oil inventories and gasoline inventories, which continues to weigh on markets.

One analyst's advice: Enjoy the stable prices while you can.

But during the past couple weeks, the global oil price benchmark staged a rally to about $56 a barrel.

The price of gas is going up again.

Average retail gasoline prices in Wyoming have risen 2.6 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.27/g yesterday.

Pittsburgh-area gasoline is already higher than in most of the country.

$1.90 in 2016, $2.19 in 2015, $3.48 in 2014, $3.28 in 2013 and $3.72 in 2012.
