Former Teacher Tad Cummins, Elizabeth Thomas Found in Calif.

Fact: The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said Thomas appeared to go willingly, but also said Cummins was "abusing his role as a teacher to groom [the] vulnerable young girl" to lure and potentially sexually exploit her. Officials have even used the term "brainwashed", to remind people of the control Cummins allegedly had over her. Two loaded handguns were recovered in the cabin, as well as personal items belonging to the pair, according to the sheriff's office.

The arrest ends a nationwide manhunt that began on March 13, when Cummins fled with Elizabeth from their small town of Culleoka, Tenn.

Deputies monitored the auto and took Cummins into custody as daylight broke, said DeVine.

Cummins, who is now at the Sacramento County Main Jail, will first face arraignment on that charge in the federal court in Sacramento, before facing a host of state and local charges back in Tennessee.

The Associated Press is not naming the girl or her family members because she is an alleged victim of a sex crime. "I guess I'm glad that they came out here and I got to help".

Surveillance cameras show Cummins and Elizabeth at an Oklahoma City Walmart that afternoon.

Fact: Investigators were looking into the possibility they were crossing the border.

Sheriff deputies in Siskiyou County on Thursday rescued Thomas and arrested Tad Cummins, 50, a former teacher at her school in Maury County, Tennessee, from a cabin near Yreka, California, about 60 miles (100 km) south of the OR border.

"We are all stoked she was found", O'Hare said.

A TBI plane is supposed to fly the girl back home. If convicted of the federal charge, he faces at least 10 years in prison, acting U.S. Attorney Jack Smith said.

The pair been in the heavily wooded area 60 miles south of the OR line since at least last week, according to Griffin Barry, the man who says he eventually helped police capture Cummins.

Just one day after being located by police officers in northern California, Elizabeth Thomas has returned to Middle Tennessee. The teacher, however, acknowledged that the girl was "a really good friend and she does leave her other classes to come see him when she needs someone to calm her down", according to a school report dated January 30. It could take weeks to extradite Cummins, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said.

WBIR reports that the cabin owner was with a neighbor when he first met Cummins and Thomas.

As he discussed the pair with someone a bar Wednesday night, the other person found Cummins' picture online in an urgent Amber Alert widely distributed by authorities. Cummins was suspended from his job after he was allegedly caught kissing Elizabeth on school grounds, and he was sacked after he and Elizabeth went missing.

Cummins' wife told authorities on March 14 that her husband wanted to get the loan "to meet their financial needs during his suspension from work without pay". The main concern is for her emotional well-being, Gwyn said.
