Elon Musk Is Seriously Starting a "Telepathy" Company

Tesla Motors founder Elon Musk has hinted at the possibility of the electric-car maker setting up a Gigafactory in India to make lithium-ion batteries in. He added that it would also depend heavily on regulatory approval timing and how well it works on people with disabilities.

The lofty goals of Neuralink means that someday humans may be able to directly communicate with each other and computers with just a thought.

Neuralink is aiming to launch a product that will help people who suffer from serious brain injuries as a result of disorders such as stroke and cancer in just four years, Musk said. Making it possible to connect with such high bandwith directly into the brain would allow us to integrate cloud-based AI computing within our selves in a way that's indistinguishable from our core selves, Musk proposes, much like how most people would now find it hard to separate their statements and expressions in language from the parts of the brain that generate them.

"I think we are about 8 to 10 years away from this being usable by people with no disability". It seems that Facebook is not the only one working on this type of technology.

That's a lot of hurdles in Neuralink's future, but unlike Tesla, at least it doesn't have a problem of stepping on the toes of a huge industry.

First, there are the engineering hurdles to overcome. Details had been scarce since, but today we have been provided with so many details we hope our brains can take it. The thing that would change is the interface-having a high-bandwidth interface to your digital enhancements. When we want to tell someone about an emotion or concept in our brain, that idea has to be shaped into the mould of language, pushed out and into someone else's brain, where they use their knowledge of language and experience to understand it.

The engineering is only half the battle, though.

This is followed with a primer on the current state of brain-machine interfaces before the text moves on to Neuralink, with plenty of insight from Musk himself and some of the members of his new team. There's also the not-entirely-unfounded fear that these computers could be hacked. Mood disorders, Parkinson's, OCD, and other brain-related medical issues could rapidly be corrected if we had a more reliable, thorough, and minimally-invasive way of telling our brain exactly what it needs to do.
