Cops: Killing of 4 White Men Was a Hate Crime

Police said a man fatally shot three people Tuesday in Fresno California in less than two minutes in what authorities are calling a hate crime. The three victims were white and apparently chosen at random police said. The suspect Kori Ali

"I want to make a desperate plea to that individual to turn himself in", Dyer said.

The suspect in Tuesday's Fresno shooting told cops he watched them investigate a crime he committed last week from a nearby rooftop and practiced voodoo rituals while in hiding.

Furthermore, his arrest history included charges of making terror threats.

One of the victims killed today was a PG&E worker. A third was in a local charity's parking lot.

Zackary Randalls, a 34-year-old father of two young children, was killed. Greer said he ran into the Catholic Charities building.

"They're so devastated", Wagner said. "If he didn't like what they did, he didn't like what they did no matter the color", she said.

An African-American man went on a shooting spree in Fresno, California, and randomly targeted four white men, killing three, before he was taken into custody.

Dyer says this all began with a murder last Thursday night at a motel where he allegedly killed a security guard for unspecified "disrespect".

Muhammad shot Gassett in the chest, Dyer said.

"Within seconds, Dyer said, the gunman had moved west on Mildreda Street, firing at but missing a resident, and then to Fulton Street, where he fired several rounds at another man, striking and killing him".

While working at a Motel 6, Williams and the suspect got into an argument, police said. All three of his victims were white men. They scattered, and the gunman picked an "older gentleman" who appeared to be heavier, David Jackson, and shot him twice.

Muhammad was living on the streets and most people had "disassociated" themselves from him, the chief said.

The suspect has been identified as Kori Ali Muhammad, 39.

During the arrest, Muhammad shouted "Allahu Akbar", or "God is great", but the shootings had "nothing to do with terrorism in spite of the statement he made," Dyer said.

According to police, Muhammad was arrested without incident and stated "I did it". He told police he noticed the driver was Latino and the passenger was white so he shot four rounds into the passenger side.

"He said he is Muslim, but prays to seven different gods", the police chief said.

After emerging from the ravine Sunday, he cut his braided hair and burned it, altering his appearance from the "wanted" photos police would release while searching for him in the death of the security guard. Muhammad "is not a terrorist but he is a racist", Dyer said.

"This is no a terrorist-related crime", Dyer said.

"So, I'm very, very, very grateful that I was able to say goodbye, maybe not at that moment, but prior to that", she said. "I shot them." A weapon, speed loader and additional ammo were found on his person.

Muhammad also shot Mark Gassett, 37, of Fresno, after he had picked up groceries at a Catholic Charities building.

Three people were killed in what police said is an anti-white hate crime. Once prosecutors gets the reports, charges should be filed Thursday, with an arraignment then set for Friday.

Pal Eddie Valencia who was with Randalls as life ebbed out of him, said his friend was colour blind. Friends say Randalls had just started his new job as a customer-service representative and was doing a ride-along Tuesday.

Two others also were shot and killed. All of the victims are white.
